A unique approach to EA management and governance

Agilense approach to enterprise architecture management and governance uniquely recognizes:

  • The need for pragmatic EA solutions that are easy to learn and use

  • The need to support collaboration between business and IT users

  • The need for enterprise architecture information to be presented in diverse ways

  • The need to assemble information from a variety of sources

  • The need for a dynamic/flexible/moldable solutions

  • The need to execute algorithms, monitor events, and integrate with other solutions

  • The need for low impact deployment and out-of-the box capability

Agilense EA WebModeler, provides the proper balance of features required to pragmatically and successfully implement enterprise architecture management and governance.

Providing products that are easy to learn and use would seem to be an obvious quality for any software product, however, this has not been the case with many EA tools to date. EA WebModeler was created with an eye on the end-user. In a matter of hours users can install, learn, and be productive with EA WebModeler.

EA WebModeler consists of central repository of enterprise architecture knowledge accessed via a standard browser. A server application resides between the repository and a web server. The application server responds to user requests and external events, accesses the repository, performs calculations, and dynamically generates user interfaces.

EA WebModeler distinctively balances its unique browser interaction capability with traditional modeling, creating a solution that is both familiar to any person experienced with a browser and to the traditional case-tool experienced modeler. Repository information is presented in common business language terms thereby facilitating communication between business and technical persons. From the inception of EA WebModeler, careful attention was placed on ensuring business people would be able to quickly learn, use, and interact with EA WebModeler while maintaining rich support for complex technical functions.

Most enterprise architecture information is distributed about the enterprise and stored in such places as spreadsheets, documents, private databases, and in people?s heads. Most as-is information and all to-be information is not automatically collectable (scannable) thus EA WebModeler provides CRUD (create/read/updated/delete) user interfaces, as well as import/export api's, to enable EA information to be populated into a central repository as quickly as possible. Users have even been given the ability to populate EA WebModelers repository via email.

EA WebModelers unique active metamodel technology enables organizations to easily modify EA WebModeler for their specific needs in real-time, without coding. Organizations and EA consulting companies are able to quickly implement their own metamodels and methodologies and/or industry standard methodologies and metamodels.

EA WebModeler?s server capability is unique providing calculation, programming, event-action, and integration capability typically absent from modeling tool centric solutions. For example, users could define custom calculation formulas to measure risk, performance; cost other items of interest to the business. Users can register interest in an event, for example the modification of a certain type of data, and be automatically notified when that data changes. The combination of the server features of EA WebModeler and user interface capabilities are essential to implementing an automated governance process.

A WebModeler is entirely server based and accessed via a web-browser enabling the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) possible. It consists of the:

* Framework Manager and Reference Models provide a rich base of pre-defined classifications of enterprise architecture information and the ability to easily extend the reference models and/or use 3rd party models.

* Portal enables role based authorization and personalization of EA WebModeler user interfaces as well as a simple means to construct a custom web site and access to EA WebModeler repository from 3rd party solutions.
Learn more>>

* Ad-Hoc Reporting and Analysis System provides a unique browser based capability to produce ad-hoc reports, composite documents, and on-the-fly analysis of enterprise architecture.
Learn more>>

* Dynamic Interface Generator uniquely automates the generation of browser based views thus eliminating coding. Upon adding or changing a metamodel element, EA WebModeler instantly enables the user to perform navigation, information creation, update, analysis, and reporting on item instances.
Learn more>>

* Active Repository stores and links all the metamodels, models, collaboration information, EA data, and external documentation associated with enterprise architecture. And, the unique repository schema enables real-time extensions.
Learn more>>

* Artifact Manager provides the capability for end-users to create, update delete, share and collaborate on enterprise architecture artifacts. Artifacts include not only internally stored repository information but also externally version controlled documents, spreadsheets, presentations project files, html pages and links, as well as software component metadata and interfaces to software configuration management software

* Model Manager is where EA WebModeler radically leads the market. EA WebModelers approach to models enables metamodels to be stored and examined in the repository. Models Types may be defined by users enabling a wide range of support for modeling needs. Models may also be easily mapped for rendering in tools such as Visio and Powerpoint with bi-directional updating. Today, users are able to utilize Visio for metamodeling and modeling, traditionally the venue of "high-end" tools.

* Event/Governance & Server/UI Engine enables EA to be extended from being a pure modeling activity, to an operational management support activity. EA WebModeler enables active monitoring of EA information, creation of custom events and algorithms, and workflow automation necessary to automate governance processes.
