:::Events and Governance
Automate business and architecture change procedures
EA WebModeler enables enterprises to automate governance
processes that manage business change, and automate the governance process that
manages change to enterprise architecture. Business change and enterprise architecture
change processes are intertwined because, to mange business change, reliable enterprise
architecture information is required, and to ensure reliable enterprise architecture
information is available, a governance process is required to support EA information
quality control.
EA WebModeler Eventing Infrastructure
EA WebModeler's event subsystem provides the necessary infrastructure to automate
processes and hence governance. EA WebModeler automation is triggered by user events
such as the creation of a new enterprise architecture artifact, timer events such as
batch job start times, or other internal or external events. Events are associated
with Actions such that upon the triggering of an event, an action occurs.
EA WebModeler ships with both pre-defined events and pre-defined actions that
may be aggregated into a flow to achieve a process such as an artifact review
process, a data backup process etc. Further, enterprises may define corporate
reusable events and actions and include custom events and actions. The example below
demonstrates using EA WebModeler's reusable events and actions to automate
notification via email to the administrator when a new Issue is created in the
EA WebModeler repository.
Subscribing to an Event
The EA WebModeler view below shows how the subscription to an event can be named
and made available for reuse. An EAWM Issue Type has been defined to EA WebModeler
using the Framework Manager ("Type View"). The EAWM Issue Type has properties
such as its name, date/time created, who created it, description of the issue,
association with documentation related to the issue and so on. EA WebModeler
infrastructure generates a create event whenever an instance of a Type is created,
changed, and deleted. In the graphic below, the user has subscribed to the create
event on the EAWM Issue and given that subscription the name "EAWM Issue Create",
thereby enabling users interested in the Issues to register interest by referencing
the EAWM Issue Create item.
